Hello, friends! Over the past few months, I’ve been planning out a lot for Alt Columnist and hoping to expand our horizons a bit. I wanted to post this publicly so everyone is on the same page. Keyword: EXPANSION. Here’s a list of some changes and improvements we’re making:
- I’m trying to diversify our content output, meaning more artist spotlights, special features, premieres, interviews, and other posts.
- We are considering expanding onto other platforms, such as creating YouTube videos or podcasts. I had tried launching a podcast back in 2017 but got bogged down by school and other priorities, so maybe now we’ll give it another shot. With YouTube, I’m certainly thinking of adapting our Monthly Picks to video format.
- We are now willing to do interviews over email, phone, messaging, etc. We originally only agreed to in-person interviews, but I would love to start conducting more online. If you’d still like to do an in-person interview, hit us up whenever you’re in the Birmingham, AL, area!
- Our guidelines for the Monthly Picks have become more lenient if you haven’t already noticed. We used to not include past releases, but now we are more willing. For instance, if you released an EP in July but we’re posting our Monthly Picks for August, your EP might still make it in. Of course, nothing is guaranteed but we will try our best.
- Another form of expansion is opening our doors to more genres that we haven’t pursued in the past, namely spoken word or slam performances.
- Going off of that, I have been working on establishing a creative collective for writers specializing in poetry, short fiction, and the likes. This is still in the works, but if you are interested, you can go ahead and let us know.
- If you are interested in writing posts on the site or joining our team, that’s a possibility we’re considering. Feel free to email or message us about that, but know that I’m not an employer, just someone willing to provide you with some exposure.
- Oh, and we’re hoping to get a .com domain soon! I just gotta pay off this speeding ticket I got…
